ATTIC SHIELD INSTALLATION
Improving insulation in a home will have a dramatic affect not only on your heating bills in the winter, but also on your air conditioning usage in the summer. Upgrading or retrofitting insulation will reduce your home energy bills by up to 25% in the summer months and by almost 50% in the winter months. Attic Shield is a form of insulation that is highly reflective, which reflects radiant heat rather than absorbing it.

Heat travels from a warm area to a cool area by a combination of conduction, convection and radiation. Heat flows by conduction from a warm location through a substance to a cooler location. Heat transfer by convection occurs when a liquid or gas is heated and becomes less dense therefore causing it to rise. As the liquid or gas cools it becomes more dense causing it to fall. Radiant heat travels in a straight line away from a surface and heats something solid as it absorbs its energy.
Most common insulation materials work by slowing conductive heat flow. However, Attic Shield is made up of a military grade super polymer, which is coated on both sides with 99% pure aluminum. Therefore, Attic shield works by reducing radiant heat gain. To be effective the reflective surface must face an air space.
When the sun heats a roof, it’s primarily the sun’s radiant energy that makes the roof hot. Much of this heat travels by conductions through the roofing materials to the attic side of the roof. The hot roof material then radiates its gained heat energy onto the cooler attic surfaces. The Attic Shield reduces the radiant heat transfer.
